Our online learning platform helps students master the tools and techniques used in professional game art production

Gamifying the learning experience and rewarding effort
With so many tutorials to watch, tools to learn, and techniques to master, learning game art can be overwhelming, and students often find it difficult to know where to start. To address this, we've built an interactive skill tree that enables students to follow structured learning pathways that align with the industry's various job roles and specialisms.

Comparing 3D Modelling Software
Before you dive into the world of 3D, you should consider which modelling software is right for you.
Blender
Having become the industry-standard 3D modelling software, learning to navigate Blender's UI and tools is a great place to start.
Topology
Understanding topology is essential for creating clean, efficient 3D models that deform correctly when animated.
Blocking Out
Crafting simple shapes and rough volumes helps you establish the overall form, scale, and silhouette of your model early on.
Breaking The Box
Cutting, extruding and bevelling the primitive box shapes so that the general silhouettes are broken up into individual components.

What software is needed to follow tutorials?
Game studios select software based on their specific needs, so we aim to offer tutorials covering a range of industry-standard software packages including Blender, Maya, Substance Designer & Painter, Marmoset Toolbag, Unreal, and more.
To maximise accessibility, we try to use free, open source software like Blender as much as possible while doing our best to teach in a 'software-agnostic' way. That is to say once you understand the fundamentals, you may follow one of our Blender tutorials even if you are working in another software like 3DS Max.
Check each tutorial's description for specific software requirements.
How do challenges work?
Many tutorials come with a challenge so you can apply your newly acquired skills to a project with time and technical constraints set by the tutor.
When you start a challenge, a blog will be created automatically. Use this blog to post regular progress updates, and publish it to complete the challenge. Once published, your blog will appear on the submissions list on the challenge page.
Highlighting your ability to adapt and innovate under constraints, challenges reveal your artistic journey and problem-solving skills in a way that a traditional portfolio often cannot.
Where can I watch live sessions?
Live sessions are streamed on the Meiyo Discord server. You can navigate to the live session calendar via your dashboard to browse upcoming live sessions.
Can I watch live session recordings later?
Yes, all live sessions are recorded and uploaded to Meiyo for students to watch at their convenience. Live session recordings will be available on their corresponding pages, which you can navigate to via the live session calendar.
How can I get involved with the Meiyo Community?
Join the Meiyo Discord server to meet other community members, ask questions, help others, and suggest tutorials you'd like to see on the platform.
